Humanities Residential

A group of pupils, alongside Mr Dowds, Mr Cox, and Miss Spence, went to Durham on a residential trip. Mr Cox gave us a summary.

“The trip was for humanities students in KS4 to conduct field work for their GCSE exams. Durham was chosen as the cathedral forms a large part of the History exam, studying Norman Britain. The pupils went on a fascinating guided tour of the cathedral with a lot of educational links being made.

It was an ideal location too for our Geographers due its location near to the River Tees. Pupils planned and risk assessed a trip to the river to explore changes from source to mouth. We planned to measure width, depth and speed as well as bedload across the upper, middle and lower course but due to heavy rainfall on the days prior to our trip, we had to change our plans as the pupil's risk assessment deemed it too dangerous. However, the pupils enjoyed the trip immensely”.

The trip provided new challenges and experiences for pupils, both of which contribute to their continuing personal development.
