Discovery Day

Our latest Discovery Day, organised by Mrs Booth, focused on the theme of ‘Time’. On the 14th of March, our off-timetable day, which coincided with British Science Week, allowed all pupils to get stuck-in with a variety of sessions.

Time to Craft

Pupils got crafty and experimented with putting together a variety of creations ranging from roller-coasters made of marbles and tubes in Science, clocks made out of vinyl records in Design Technology, scones made from ‘time-dried’ fruit in Food Technology, and zoetropes, which are an early form of animation technology, in our Creative Arts session.

Looking Back In Time

Pupils looked at old mobile phones during their Technology lesson. The aim here was to look at phone histories and talk about how a phone stores it. Then in Computing, the session was all about travelling back in time with a time-coding activity.

“The Discovery days are designed to give students the opportunity to experience STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities. The days have a focus/theme that relates to a National day or current issues. The most recent one had the theme 'Time' to link with British science week.

Discovery days help us to inspire and develop curiosity within STEM. It gives students the opportunity to work together, developing team work as well as great opportunities to develop oracy”. - Mrs Booth

What a jam-packed day. Thank you to Mrs Booth for organising this enriching time, and thank you to the staff who helped deliver it to our pupils.
